Tomorrow, the book "Day Trading Attention: How to Actually Build Brand and Sales in the New Social Media World" by Gary Vaynerchuck will be released.
I had it pre-ordered months ago because “Brand and Sales in the New Media World” is exactly what I have been discussing with Niko for over 6 years now when I was frustrated with a sales consulting gig where the founders said they wanted to “build a consumer brand on social media”.
“DNVB” and “DTC” is what my experienced founder brain heard, but you can never trust the other person really understands even though they are nodding.
So, what they meant was doing ads on Social Media and do some black hat Facebook forum tactics they learned in some guru course (the strangely funny thing is that these bozos always fall for the same bs* they do to others). Of course, they were complaining when they were kicked. Of course, they were complaining about their 2 minimum-wage part-time helping hands. And I can only imagine what they were complaining about me although I was the one getting them their first 10k+ orders from distributors in an industry that was totally new to me.
It turned out they didn’t want to build a brand nor to serve others. They just needed me to build their sales for retail-distribution because all they had was a local supermarket and a nice collection of burnt bridges with the local downtown retailers. Pretty impressive for a rather young operation… I never found out exactly what they had done, because when I tried to talk to 2 of them, I was not met with any friendliness when I mentioned them. I can only imagine and it wouldn’t’ take much for you to do so too…
Anyways, since then it has been a topic that I have been thinking and discussing a lot about.
And so, 2 things
- I am excited to learn what a true expert on that topic has to say about it. I expect it delves into the strategies required to succeed in this new arena and what it really means to day-trade attention, and how businesses can leverage this concept to enhance their brand and drive sales to really build a demand-side brand-led sales strategy by communicating value.
- I can’t wait for the book to be available and therefore have discussed with ChatGPT what it could be all about.
I do really hope it is about
- the deep strategic foundations, to capitalize on market fluctuations to attract and engage users continuously.
- Something better than ChatGPT came up with, and
- not just some growth hacks that only work today.
So with no further adue: Enjoy our discussion

Absolutely, day trading, whether in financial markets or attention markets, demands a profound understanding of fundamental principles and foundational strategies.
Day-trading attention involves strategically capturing, maintaining, and leveraging the attention of an audience on social media platforms. - Attention Markets: Audience interests and platform algorithms change frequently, requiring quick adaptation to new formats and trends.
5. Patience and Discipline:
- Financial Markets: Sticking to a trading plan and not letting emotions drive decisions is key.
- Attention Markets: Consistency in content creation and not getting discouraged by fluctuations in engagement is important.
6. Technology Utilization:
- Financial Markets: Using trading software, real-time data feeds, and analytical tools.
- Attention Markets: Leveraging social media management tools, analytics platforms, and content creation software.
7. Networking and Collaboration:
- Financial Markets: Networking with other traders and financial experts can provide insights and opportunities.
- Attention Markets: Collaborating with other content creators and engaging with the audience can boost visibility and growth.
Both day trading and managing attention require a blend of strategic planning, continuous learning, and practical execution. By grounding oneself in these foundational principles, one can navigate the complexities and volatility inherent in both fields.
